Early Years

IB Diploma Programme

The Diploma Programme is intended to be a holistic programme that addresses the intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being of students in Grade 11 and 12.

The Early Years: Shaping Confident Learners Early

Our IB Early Years at MLSI is designed to nurture global citizens from the very beginning. Catering to the children of the age group of 3 to 6, it is a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based curriculum that ensures students are not just learning what to think, but how to think, act, and lead in an ever-changing world. The Early Years journey is designed as a seamless progression of discovery, balancing joyful exploration with growing academic confidence.

PYP Students

EY 1 (Age group: 3–4)

The Transition to Inquiry: Students move from guided play to structured discovery, fostering the initial spark of inquiry-based learning.

EY 2 (Age group: 4–5)

Expanding Concepts: Students begin to collaborate on big ideas moving from individual play to concept-driven learning.

EY 3 (Age group: 5–6)

Synthesis and Leadership: Students master the foundational ATL skills (Approaches to Learning), taking ownership of their learning and preparing for the transition to the primary years.

Rooted in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), MLSI is an inquiry-based learning school where inquiry is a natural way of thinking and learning, supported by a thoughtfully designed ecosystem of purposeful play, agency, and real-world exploration.

Purposeful Play

Play is intentionally designed as a powerful learning tool. It enables students to explore complex concepts, strengthen social confidence, and become capable of finding solutions independently.

Agency and Voice

We put students in the driver’s seat. By exercising voice and choice in their projects, they develop the self-management and confidence that define a true IB learner.

Visible Thinking

Through daily routines, we help students see their own thought processes. This habit of reflection builds the metacognition required for future academic excellence and leadership.

The Environment as the Third Teacher

Our premium spaces, from the Explorer’s Hub with its sand-play zones to our Specialist Studios, are designed to spark imagination. Whether it’s the tactile focus of the Pottery wheel or sensory play in our Splash Pool, every corner of MLSI invites students to build, test, and solve real-world problems.

Learning Without Borders

We turn the city into a classroom. Frequent expeditions allow students to take their inquiries into the real world, ensuring their education is grounded in tangible experiences.

Smart Tech, Real Touch

We prioritise technology for creation over consumption. By balancing digital tools with tactile, hands-on play, we ensure students become tech-savvy creators who remain deeply grounded in the real world.

Expertise is woven into our daily rhythm as students venture beyond the homeroom to collaborate with specialist educators in purpose-built environments, enriching our transdisciplinary curriculum:

The Arts

From the tactile precision of the pottery wheel to expressive music and visual arts, we provide the tools for every creative voice to flourish.

Movement and Wellness

Physical Education and Dance build core strength, while our Splash Pool sessions introduce water safety through joyful sensory play.

Explorer’s Hub

A dedicated space for high-sensory research. Whether in the sand-play zone or outdoor areas, children engineer landscapes and test theories in the fresh air.

ECA Framework

In EY 3, students transition to a focused extracurricular framework, turning their favourite discoveries into platforms for leadership and mastery.

The Village Philosophy

The Early Years journey is strengthened by a culture of openness and partnership. With real-time updates and meaningful insights shared through our parent platform, families stay closely connected to every milestone. At the heart of it all is our Village philosophy, a multi-generational community where parents and grandparents actively co-create the learning experience, ensuring values like empathy, inclusion, and responsibility are truly lived every day.

The Early Years experience is a joyful, high-energy space where purposeful play becomes the ultimate learning lab. As a part of the PYP curriculum, children develop the 21st-century skills of problem-solving and self-expression, delivering four developmental outcomes:

Belonging and Self-Efficacy

Play builds the inner confidence to take risks, connect with peers, and foster emotional well-being.

Relational Abilities

As a “social rehearsal”, play develops the sharing, turn-taking, and respect essential for social intelligence.

Representational Abilities

Learners use creative symbols, from building blocks to storytelling, to communicate complex ideas and meaning.

Cognitive Abilities

Play is a mental workout that sharpens focus, memory, and the ability to theorise about how the world works.

PYP Model

At MLSI, we seamlessly bridge joyful exploration with academic rigour, ensuring students build strong foundations for the IB continuum and beyond. Through multi-sensory, research-backed approaches to literacy and numeracy, students grow into confident readers, logical thinkers, and expressive communicators. From the earliest years, the IB learner profile and essential self-management and communication skills are nurtured— setting the stage for future success.

The IB Learner Profile

The International Baccalaureate learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. The profile aims to develop learners who are Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective. Want to find out more? Prepared for the Primary Years

By the end of the Early Years, the student grows into a confident, curious, and independent learner—equipped with strong foundational skills, a spirit of inquiry, and the social-emotional awareness to explore new ideas, express themselves clearly, and transition seamlessly into the Primary Years Programme.

At MLSI, excellence is non-negotiable. All our educators are IB-trained professionals who understand the nuances of the Primary Years Programme. Furthermore, our staff undergoes regular Professional Development (PD) and pedagogical audits to stay at the forefront of global early childhood research.

No. At MLSI, mealtime is a key part of our Learning for Life curriculum. Breakfast and lunch are provided at school. This helps children develop the skill of independence, from learning to use cutlery to understanding nutrition, and trying diverse foods alongside their peers.

The day is a rhythmic blend of community and discovery:

Morning Circle Time: Setting the day's intention and building social bonds.

Play and Exploration: The core of our morning, where children develop social-emotional grit through guided play.

Specialist Classes: Throughout the week, children transition to dedicated studios for Pottery, Music, Dance, PE, and Art.

We take a holistic approach to wellness. In addition to our classroom teachers, we have an in-house Special Educator and School Counsellor. We also conduct specialised wellbeing classes to help children navigate their emotions, build empathy, and develop resilience.

We believe in a strong home-school partnership. We hold four official Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) per year and unique Student-Led Conferences. Beyond these, we maintain an open-door philosophy with multiple informal interactions throughout the term.

Yes. For the convenience of our families, safe and supervised transport is available starting right from Playgroup. Each bus is staffed to ensure your child’s commute is safe, social, and comfortable.

As an international school, we celebrate linguistic diversity. We use a sheltered immersion approach, where teachers use visual aids, gestures, and social modelling to help children pick up the language naturally. Our goal is to make every child feel heard, whether through words, art, or play, as they build their English fluency at their own pace.

Personalised attention is a cornerstone of the MLSI experience. We maintain a low student-teacher ratio to ensure that every child’s inquiry is supported. Each class is led by an IB-trained teacher and supported by qualified co-teachers and dedicated support staff, allowing for small-group learning and individual guidance.

We understand that starting school is a major milestone for both the child and the parent. We follow a gradual transition process, where we work closely with you to ease your child into the routine. Our teachers are experts in building secure attachments, ensuring that the classroom quickly becomes a safe harbour where your child feels confident to explore.

The transition is seamless because our curriculum is part of a continuous IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) arc. In EY 3, we place a stronger emphasis on self-management and pre-academic stamina. Because our Primary teachers and Early Years teachers collaborate through vertical mapping, we ensure that the skills learned in EY 3 are the exact building blocks required for success in PYP and beyond.

The Early Years (EY) at MLSI is designed for children aged 3–6 years. It focuses on inquiry-based and play-based learning that helps young learners develop curiosity, confidence, and foundational skills.

Play-based learning allows children to explore ideas, develop creativity, and build problem-solving skills. Through guided play, children develop language, social skills, and early cognitive abilities.

The programme builds foundational literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills, preparing children for a smooth transition into the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Children develop communication skills, creativity and imagination, early problem-solving abilities, social confidence, and independence in daily routines.

Assessment focuses on observation, learning portfolios, and classroom interactions rather than traditional tests. This helps teachers understand each child’s development.

The IB approach encourages children to ask questions, explore ideas, and learn through meaningful experiences.

Children participate in music, arts, dance, and physical education, helping develop creativity, coordination, and confidence.

Teachers create a nurturing environment where children build resilience, empathy, and self-confidence through guided interactions and positive reinforcement.

Parents are partners in learning through regular communication, school events, and updates that provide insights into children’s progress.

MLSI offers a safe, engaging, and inquiry-driven environment where children develop strong foundations for lifelong learning.
